Limited Edition 400

12" x 16"

Another of my favorite memories of my Iditarod races ... In 1976 we climbed a fairly steep hill aptly nicknamed '' Little McKinley '' in the dark , on the way to the Golovin Checkpoint .. As it generally was in the ''old days'' there was little or no trail , no markings , windy , lots of willows ... Once on top we lost our way in which direction to cross the sea ice to Golovin .. After thrashing around in the dark and willows and ground blizzard looking , we settled down a short while to wait for dawn ... Suddenly , across the ice we saw Maggie Olson turn on her light in her house , so we pointed our dog teams to the light , and in a short while arrived ... Thank you Maggie and Martin Olson for the memories , this is dedicated to you . ~Jon ~
